Home Value Trail reproduces FHFA and Census Bureau files without editorial changes, so most differences between this site and another source come from the files themselves or from the method described on the methodology page.

Disputes about an index value or a permit count

These are agency figures. FHFA revises its indexes with each release and labels the ZIP, county and metro indexes developmental; the Census Bureau revises permits as late reports arrive. Questions about the underlying value go to FHFA or the Building Permits Survey; changes they publish appear here at the next build.

Errors introduced by this site

If a figure here does not match the file it cites (a mis-parsed row, a ZIP attached to the wrong county, a place attached to the wrong county or metro, a broken span or decade calculation), write to the address on the contact page with the page URL and the value you expect. Processing errors are fixed in the code and the site is rebuilt; expect a reply within five working days.

Removals

The site publishes area-level statistics only and no information about any person or any individual property. If a page appears to identify a person or a single home, report the URL and it will be reviewed immediately.
